Editorial Guidelines

Tent City Post · Updated 16 October 2026

1. Purpose and editorial independence

Tent City Post reports on housing insecurity, homelessness and related public policy. Editorial decisions are made on the merits of a story, independently of advertisers, contributors and outside interests.

2. Accuracy and verification

Contributors must distinguish verified facts from allegations, opinions and analysis. Check names, dates, figures, quotations and primary documents before submission. Editors may seek supporting material and independently verify claims.

3. Fairness and right of reply

Where serious allegations are made about identifiable people or organisations, contributors should provide sufficient evidence and, where practicable and appropriate, a fair opportunity to respond before publication.

4. Sources and confidentiality

Attribute information accurately. Do not promise anonymity or confidentiality on behalf of Tent City Post without prior editorial agreement. Protect confidential material and disclose conflicts of interest to the editor.

5. Opinion and commentary

Clearly distinguish opinion, commentary and analysis from reported fact. Strong criticism is permitted, but not knowingly false or misleading assertions.

6. Editorial approval

Every article requires approval by an authorised editor before publication. No contributor has authority to publish directly. Editors may request revisions, defer publication or reject material.

7. Corrections and accountability

Report suspected errors through the Contact Us page. Editors assess concerns, correct significant factual mistakes promptly and, where appropriate, publish a clarification, correction or retraction.

8. Conflicts, attribution and use of AI

Disclose financial, personal or organisational interests relevant to a story. Credit original reporting, images and quotations. Disclose substantive use of AI in preparing submitted material; contributors remain responsible for checking every factual claim.

9. Legal and ethical safeguards

Respect privacy, copyright, court orders, suppression orders, defamation law and the safety of vulnerable people. Editorial review is not a guarantee that a submission will be published.
